“Most of my practice for years was with Miller Orthopedics in Charlotte, NC where we saw professional and amateur athletes as well as people in the community. I loved working there as we had direct access to the MDs anytime a question or issue arose. I honed my skills in orthopedics and enjoyed my coworkers. I also did a mentorship with Kate Hoppenstead, a PT who is a Maitland instructor. She further sharpened my skills, giving me the confidence to open my own clinic. The impetus to have my own place was driven by my dismay with the increasing demands to see more patients in an 8 hour day. I simply knew quality has to go down as quantity increases. All the research shows hands on techniques are more effective, but with insurance reimbursement rates flat or even decreasing, the reality was PT was no longer viable unless you switched to a high volume model. So in forming Restore PT, my goal was to be able to perform 1 on 1 PT with an emphasis on hands on techniques. This is what I’ve done since 2009, first in Hendersonville and now in Mars Hill. I also recently completed a Pain Science Certificate program from the University of South Australia to better serve the patients we see who experience chronic pain.”
